Laminated plywood – the right storage helps to extend the product’s life!

High-quality laminated birch plywood is widely used in the construction industry, mainly for ceiling and wall formwork. The operating conditions of plywood products in this industry are extremely harsh - repeated assembly, disassembly, cutting, resulting in changes in the formwork structure, and long-term exposure to humidity and chemical solutions.

How to choose plywood for formwork?

120g/m2 laminated plywood is suitable for floor formwork.

220g/m2 laminated plywood is suitable for wall formwork.

During transportation and storage, plywood should always be kept in a horizontal position.

After purchase and transportation, it is important to let the product "rest" for 1-2 days, preferably without opening it immediately, so that it can better preserve its original characteristics and performance.

Recommendations for product storage:

1 Plywood should be stored in a well-ventilated, enclosed space, away from direct sunlight.

It is also important to keep away from various oils and lubricating products. Oil is a volatile product, and plywood, as a "breathing" material, will absorb substances during evaporation, which will remain on the film and in further use, will remain in the concrete.

2 Storage temperature: -40° to +50°, relative humidity not exceeding 80%.

3. Plywood should be placed horizontally. To ensure ventilation, the product should be placed in packaging on a pallet and wooden pads (thickness not less than 50mm, length not less than the packaging width, no protrusions)

4 Single pieces of plywood (not a whole package) are best stored on a stable elevated base. To prevent the individual sheets from sagging, use pallets and spacers:

Place the plywood on the spacers at intervals of 30-40 cm

Place a crossbar across the width of the plywood

The distance between the outermost spacer and the end of the packaging should not exceed 10 cm

5When the plywood is stored for a long time, the packaging tape should be cut or torn off. This will prevent marks on the top and bottom of the plywood.

6If the plywood is temporarily stored outdoors:

Cover with waterproof material

Prevent moisture from getting on the ends

Pallets and wooden spacers must be kept dry to prevent marks on the film

Most importantly do not cover the plywood with polyethylene material! After all, after rain, a lot of moisture will form under the polyethylene wrapping.

7After removing the formwork, the plywood needs to be left horizontally for 1-2 days in a ventilated environment so that the product can return to its original shape. This way the plywood is protected from local corrugations. Corrugations are undulating convexities on the surface of the laminated plywood caused by the entry of moisture through microcracks and microlosses in the phenolic film.
